“Mommy, She’s Black!” A Short Story of How a Mother Turned an Embarrassing Situation into a Humorous One25,406 views
Several years ago a good friend of mine told me about a very an embarrassing situation that his sister witnessed. She was riding on the subway in Washington DC when she noticed a three year old who was sitting next to his mother start staring at a woman directly beside him. The boy started roating his head from side to side as if he was examining her. Then without warning he blurted out to his mother, “Mommy, She’s Black!”.
Instantly the subway car became silent as every conversation stopped abruptly. People reading books, magazines, or their morning newspapers stopped and looked up. Everyone in the subway car now focused his or her attention to this child and his mother sitting right beside him wondering what she was going to say or do. The mother turns to her son and says calmly “Yes dear, G-d created people of all colors. He created white people and black people.” The boy then starts looking all around the subway car, then turns to his mother with a confusion expression, and says “I don’t see any blue people around.” Everyone including the woman sitting next to him burst out laughing.
